❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills: Rusty Mandalorian self-defense and survival training. The political acumen, diplomacy, and administrative skills of an experienced constitutional monarch of a stellar sector. Eye for fashion and art. Speaks Galactic Standard, and multiple dialects of Mando’a fluently, as well as a probably a few other languages.
Canon Abilities: No super powers for her!
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Eyes color that shifts with strong emotions, and fade back to her natural blue. A glow around her when she feels most righteous, and energy wings she can potentially learn to fly with.
Role Reasoning: Satine is by no means a perfect person – in fact she can be unbearably self-righteous. But she has held to her morals even in times of enormous pressure, valuing peace, compassion, and worth of each life. When Merrick takes her hostage, and threatens to blow up the ship, unless allowed to take her and leave, she insists that her safety is not worth the threat to others lives. And although she has not yet experienced this - even when she fully aware she is probably about to die, her concern was not for herself, but that Obi-Wan not give into anger and hate, and her dying words are to reassure him that she still loves him.
❥ Personality

Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.

OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:

  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

  • This is a bit broad, but the death of her father, and the escalation of the civil war on Mandalore afterward. There’s some indication that Satine was not enamored of the warrior aspects of Mandalorian culture before this, but details that Bo-Katan relays later says that their father raised them with at least lip service to all the old traditions. During the war, Satine was so horrified by all the death and further destruction of Mandalore’s already weakened biosphere, that her beliefs hardened to staunch pacifism that she held to for the rest of her life. She is willing to allow some violence against citizens as part of law enforcement, but when there is mass insurrection against her rule, Satine refuses to try to violently put it down. She allows Pre Viszla to take her throne rather to reignite all out civil war again.

  • What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?
Because it deserves to be addressed in her app, let’s go over Korkie as Satine’s (and Obi-Wans’s) son by blood, rather than nephew, as he is stated to be in canon. Honestly? I could play a version of Satine without this, easily. However, her backstory is sparse enough that it requires a lot of filling into with headcanons, and when I sat down with Darkfeather, whose characters would be effected, we decided together this was a headcanon we both wanted to go with.
Word of writer is Korkie’s Kryze parent is an unnamed (unmentioned) older brother. That would be a tragedy in its own right, that such a person could be so completely forgotten by history. Korkie actually being Satine’s son is a slightly different flavor of tragedy. It solidifies her story into her crafting a Star Wars equivalent to the ‘Virgin Queen’ narrative, to try to hold Mandalore together, and all the contradictions and potential hypocrisy holding out that sort of narrative entails. It makes her someone who professes to love her people deeply, but holds her own child, someone many people would say she should be willing to sacrifice anything for, slightly at arms length. It makes her a liar, who has hidden her son’s heritage from him, even though she tells herself she did it to protect him. It potentially shows a deep ambivalence about her position, and how young she was when she was forced into it, that she hasn’t raised him to be her heir.
And these are fun things to tease out and explore.

  • What are your characters dreams and nightmares? Do you believe they are more likely to obtain one rather than the other?

  • Satine’s dream is a Mandalorian sector with lasting peace, and Mandalore the planet on its way to ecological restoration, so that most of her people do not have to live in domed cities. Her nightmare is Mandalore rendered completely uninhabitable, her people too decimated to truly be a nation. For about a decade, she had hope that her dreams were within reach, at least as much as is possible for such a project, in one lifetime.
Then intergalactic war broke out between systems that wanted to leave the Republic and the Army of the Republic. She did her best to keep Mandalore neutral, despite being nominally part of the Republic. However, the war (and plotting of the Sith) brought to the surface discontent with how strongly Satine and her government had pushed out Mandalorian martial traditions. After a staged mini war between crime syndicates under Maul and Death Watch, the latter of which swooped in to ‘protect’ the populous, Satine’s government fell.
At the moment she comes to Folkmore, Satine will still hold onto a sliver of a chance that enough of Death Watch will break with Maul to overthrow him, and perhaps some compromise can be made. Or perhaps the Republic will intervene, although that would probably drag Mandalore into the wider war. Either way, without ‘spoilers’ about the future, Satine acknowledges to herself that these chances are slim and less than ideal.

(More personal dreams and nightmares, about the individuals she loves most? That would be a whole other question.)

  • What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?

  • To be Duchess of Mandalore, with the particular policies and public persona that she has chosen , Satine has sacrificed much of her personal time, potential happiness with a partner could love her deeply, and being able to call herself a mother and parts of her relationship with her son. In fact, she has probably sacrificed her relationship with her sister as well. How exactly Bo-Katan and Satine became so estranged is left a little vague, but if Satine had not clung to her particular vision of Mandalore, that estrangement might never have been so deep and lasting.
Satine has come to a point in her life where all that sacrifice has led her to the brink of failure. She will be in position to potentially deeply reassess what her potential is, her goals, her morals, and whether those sacrifices were worth it.
